Cheque operations
Cheques sold by the bank is a convenient cash equivalent for private individuals to be used both for settlements and for cash withdrawals. Cheques are sold both to customers and to non-customers of Swedbank.
Bank cheques
Bank cheques issued to Swedbank's correspondent banks and accepted for payment in foreign banks, are available for purchase to both clients and non-clients of Swedbank.
About bank cheques:
- A bank cheque is a written payment order, where Swedbank instructs their correspondent bank to pay a certain amount to a specified person (the payee).
- After purchase of the cheque, the drawers deliver it to the intended recipient themselves - by post (registered mail), courier service or through a person. For urgent payments, bank cheques might not be the best option.
- Bank cheques are valid for six months after issued.
Private bank cheques are used if:
- the client holds no current account with the bank, but needs to pay for a product or a service abroad;
- the payee's banking details are not available to make a wire transfer.
Possibilities:
- purchasing cheques in different currencies - USD, EUR, GBP or CAD
- presenting cheques for payment in foreign banks
- cancelling purchased cheque
All you need is:
come to branch of Swedbank and fill out the standard form Bank Cheque Purchase Request.

Cheques
Swedbank accepts cheques for payment in all currencies traded by the bank. Swedbank will only accept and pay cheques from the client who is stated on the cheque as the payee and who holds an account with Swedbank. To present a cheque for payment, the client needs to come to any branch of Swedbank and complete the standard form Payment of Cheques.
